Crash Course in Effective Communication

Want to send me a letter? A package? A text? Email? Skype me? Here's your key!

My Skype name is crookiebrookie. I will be able to video/voice chat every once in a while if a date is arranged.

My "phone number" for the six weeks I am there is 843-776-2760 (or evans1be on TextFree). I will probably check text messages once a day, probably at school after my classes. If you want to check on times I would be available to Skype or just shoot me a quick message, this would be the best way.

You are always welcome to leave comments on this page or send me messages. To get directly to my email, send to evans1be@cmich.edu.

If YOU would like a postcard, make sure I have your address and I will try to get one to you! Leave a comment on this page, or send an email.

After June 1st you can send me mail:

International Studies Abroad (ISA) Santiago
Attn: Brooke Evans
Calle 1 Esquina Calle 11 #7
La Loteria
Santiago, Republica Dominicana

Packages should be addressed in the same manner as listed above.

IMPORTANT:
• CUSTOMS TAX:
Goods sent from outside the Dominican Republic will be subject to a value added tax (IVA) and a
customs tax, as set by Dominican Republic law.
o In general, most packages with a declared value of under $195 arrive untaxed.
o Packages with a declared value of $195 or greater are subject to a value added tax, and in
some cases, a customs tax.

• PACKAGE DESCRIPTOINS:
Keep descriptions simple and easy-to-understand such as, “used clothing, value $25”, and avoid
complex descriptions such as, “leather jacket, value $250”. Use the simplest description possible. Items, not brand names

• WHAT NOT TO SEND:
DO NOT ship vitamins and/or over-the-counter and/or prescribed medicines. If they are
detected, the customs agent will not allow them to be delivered.

While I do not think this will be an issue, do not send anything of high value.

For further information about shipping to the Dominican Republic from the U.S., the United States Postal Service has a very useful website https://www.usps.com/ship/can-you-ship-it-internationally.htm?. Specifically, please visit the Customs section at: http://www.usps.com/global/customs.htm for their information on customs in foreign countries.
